The Dead Skunk Brewing Co. was founded in 1999 in Sun Prairie, Wis.
The Brewery was producing typical lagers and having mediocre success. The brewery spent several months and lots
of money trying to come up with a beer that tasted like the national mass produced beers

In the Fall of 1999,  brewmaster Vic Kroll found a dead skunk in the brewing vat.
At first he was going to dump the vat and start over.  However, he decided to give it a taste test. 

Surprisingly it tasted pretty much like the national brand taste he was trying to reproduce.

The brew was kegged and quickly became a local top seller.   It was named Dead Skunk Doppelbock!

The brewery, at first, was able to get all the dead skunks they needed for production from local road kill.

However, demand soon forced the brewery to look for dead skunks throughout the state and the brewery
was forced to offer a bounty on dead skunks that were brought in.

Presently the brewery's production capacity is limited and the brewery may be forced to search for dead skunks outside Wisconsin.

Dead Skunk Doppelbock was soon followed by Dead Skunk European Lager, Dead Skunk Light, and Dead Skunk Premium.

Brewmaster, Vic Kroll, subject to ridicule from the Wisconsin micro brewers because of his attempt to recreate the taste of the national brands was force to move to Punta Gorda, Florida, where he opened a branch brewery.

He again found a way to duplicate the elusive national brand taste by using wood aging barrels made from the bottoms of old out houses.
His first beer was called Outhouse Golden lager.

The beer can be found only were the worst beers are sold and always sells out quickly.

The Dead Skunk brewery was forced to close it's Sun Prairie brewery in late 2003.  City officials said the smell was just too much for the local population.   "People were getting sick from the stench that was coming from the brewery,"  according to the city health department.  Although the city did appreciate the lack of dead skunks on the roads in the city and nearby area.

The brewery temporary closed the Sun Prairie facility and moved operations to nearby Madison.   The local micro breweries welcomed the new brewery.  "We have nothing to worry about," said one local brewery rep.  "Their beer tastes just like the national brands, and that type of beer is already available in the area."
